Last week, I signed up to take a short computer class with the University of Utah’s continuing education program. It’s generally a lot easier pretending to know everything, but gosh, I really needed someone to explain to me why OS X Server is easier to manage than Windows. There’s an incredible divide between “computer folk” and “regular folk”, which is how I can get away with being anti-social and saying inappropriate things during formal events. Republicans say, “Because of 9/11” while I say, “Because I like computers.”

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I was playing a board game with SML’s family and a question asked, “What does a QWERTY relate to?” When I announced that I was finally going to get a question right, SML’s mother wrote ‘Computers’ on her card and then said, “If Ken knows this answer, IT HAS TO BE ABOUT COMPUTERS.”

When class started this morning, it included only me and one other person. I think under regular circumstances I would have been mortified to be taking the most unpopular class in the entire school, but today I felt relieved and even thought, “Now maybe we can talk about L2TP first.” And since there was only one row? I didn’t have to feel embarrassed to sit in the front because I’m a victim of iPod hearing damage. But honestly, the first day of class was fascinating. I love it. Even if it is unpopular.
