A Shout Out
Friday, 17 October 2008 20:08
SML and I made a range of bad decisions as we were moving to Boston. I can’t even write about some of them because I signed a non-disclosure agreement, which has basically eliminated any kind of public complaining. The moment I settled on that agreement I was seconds away from hitting ‘submit’ on a Yahoo forum post, and just minutes away from contacting Barbara Walters to run a story on the troubles in my life. I say that only because I watch The View and she grew up in Brookline. I ALMOST LIVE IN BROOKLINE.

A few weeks before moving, SML and I decided to purchase new iPhones based on the idea that we could sell our current phones at decent rate. Flipswap.com gave as a great “suggested” value and free shipping, so I plopped both phones into an envelope and sent them off without a second thought. I don’t even know who to blame my behavior on, is it the Good People of Utah? The Mormons? I sent my phones off to a company that I know nothing about? With so many things going on it wasn’t until September that I realized our phones still had a pending status.

Many things could have happened to our phones, of course. They could have been swallowed whole by a postman. Drowned by a PC person. Who knows. But it was another blow to my trust in society, thinking that I was fooled into business with another deceitful company. And that really is the worst feeling in the world, maybe even more so when an Apple product is involved. It’s like having to drink Folgers Coffee.

This week I received a message from Flipswap saying that even though they never received the phones, they were going to reimburse me anyway. FOR MORE THAN THE ORIGNAL QUOTE. I cannot fully explain how amazing and incredible this makes me feel to be taken seriously. Flipswap totally made my day, my week, my move to Boston. Because after moving to a city where most are unapologetic and too much in a hurry to appreciate a kitten in a purse, I’m losing faith.
